Assam: Potatoes Distributed Among Farmers for Cultivation

HATSINGIMARI: The officials of the agriculture department distributed potatoes among a large number of farmers ahead of the upcoming farming season for this staple food crop.

The officials of the agriculture department of the South Salmara Mankachar district of the state distributed a large quantity of old potatoes among the farmers of the district. These old potatoes will serve as the seed for the new crop for the upcoming farming season. According to the officials, a total of 240 farmers were chosen by the officials to receive these supplies in the Jhawdanga agriculture block.

Several officials of the department were present during the distribution of these agricultural supplies. These included the agriculture officer for the Jhawdanga agriculture block, Mithu Gogoi among various others. It can be noted that selected beneficiaries from the Jhawdanga, Kuchnimari and Pathariya areas received these supplies.

Similarly, a two-day-long Krishak Mela-2023 was organized by the Morigaon District Agriculture Department, supported by the Agricultural Technology Management Authority (ATMA), in the premises of the agriculture office. With the slogan ‘Farmers’ development is the progress of the country’, the Krishak Mela was organized here. The Krishak Mela was inaugurated by the District Commissioner Devashis Sharma, who inspected the farmers’ outlets which were installed by the farmers of the district on the eve of the Krishak Mela and also assured them to provide helping-hand towards taking the farming and its allied services as livelihood. The fair is a major platform for the farmers of the district.

The Krishak Mela was hosted by Junior Agriculture Officer Dibya Jyoti Hazarika in the presence of Additional District Commissioner Pranjal Barua. The programme was conducted by the District Agriculture Officer Ashok Kumar Sharma in the presence of the members of agricultural production companies and farmers of the district. The event was attended by SAMETI’s director Rabijit Dutta Chowdhury, Assistant Director Rajiv Bhuyan, Assistant Directors of Agriculture, Morigaon Dr. Munin Sharma, Tapan Kumar Brahma and Surya Kumar Amsi, heads of various departments like Fishery, Veterinary etc.
